What is the silicone oil

? Silicone oil is a different degree of polymerization of the structure of polysiloxane chain. Silicone oils could be a basis for silicon-based organic life, but their more prosaic, primary uses are as lubricants or hydraulic fluids. They are excellent electrical insulators and, unlike their carbon analogues, are non flammable. Their temperature-stability and good heat-transfer characteristics make them widely used in laboratories for heating baths ("oil baths") placed on top of hotplate stirrers. Silicone oil is also commonly used as the working fluid in diffusion pumps. Silicone oil is dimethyldichlorosilane with water hydrolysis condensation ring body early.

? Silicone oils (polymerized siloxanes) are not silicone but rather silicon analogues of carbon based organic compounds, and can form (relatively) long and complex molecules based on silicon rather than carbon. Chains are formed of alternating silicon-oxygen atoms or siloxane, rather than carbon atoms. Other species attach to the tetravalent silicon atoms, not to the divalent oxygen atoms which are fully committed to forming the siloxane chain.
